Airflow Teeth Cleaning
The pain free way to remove tooth staining and detox your mouth at Smile Chic.
Staining is essentially the discolouration of teeth and is extremely common among adults. While teeth naturally vary in shade due to the thickness of enamel covering the dentine, surface staining is generally caused by one or several factors, including red wine, tea, coffee, various foods and smoking.
Many dental patients assume that whitening is the only solution to combat staining, however one of the most effective ways to improve teeth colour is simply by visiting the dental hygienist and having a routine cleaning appointment to remove the stains. After all, we all want to show the world our whitest, brightest smile, and stain removal treatments are key to keeping your teeth looking their best.
Air N Go Airflow Polishing Treatment
The Air-Flow system uses a mixture of water, powder and air for painless and noiseless cleaning. It works by bombarding the tooth surface with a huge number of particles that each have a soft impact, but collectively remove stains and bio-film, the harmful bacteria deposit that causes gum disease if allowed to build up.
The process is quick, comfortable and safe, providing a great alternative if you’re squeamish about the idea of your hygienist using sharp instruments to scrape off calculus from your teeth and under the gum line.
Airflow is Gentle
Air-Flow is a remarkable system that uses nothing more than a gentle stream of water, powder and air to remove surface stains caused by tobacco, food and drink.
Airflow is Kind
Air-Flow is kind to the tooth surface and can significantly improve tooth brightness. After only one session your teeth will feel smoother than ever before.
Air-Flow disinfects your mouth by removing this bacteria. So your breath smells fresh & your body stays healthy.

Why Consider Airflow Polishing?
What is plaque and calculus?
Plaque is a sticky deposit of bacteria that is constantly forming on the tooth surface. It can trap stains on the teeth and it is also the primary factor in gum problems.
It begins forming on your teeth 4 to 12 hours after brushing, which is why dentists advise people to brush at least twice a day and floss daily. When bits of plaque aren’t successfully removed – which happens to us all at some point – it turns into calculus.
Calculus is a crusty deposit with a strong bond that can only be removed by a dental professional. People vary in their susceptibility to plaque and calculus but it is common for these deposits to build up faster with older age.
What is Airflow for?
Airflow polishing is a great way to simply and effectively brighten your smile. It will remove surface staining but will not lighten the base colour of the teeth. Stains that are removable include tea, coffee, wine, curry, chlorhexidine and tobacco
What does the procedure involve?
The treatment lasts around 30 minutes, during which time the teeth will be cleaned with the air/water/bicarbonate jet. Anaesthetic is not required and the cleaning is pain-free.
Will it whiten my teeth?
Your teeth will certainly look whiter and brighter as Airflow returns them to their natural whiteness. However, tooth whitening is still the best solution for improving the whiteness of your smile by any more than two shades. Airflow is perfect after a hygiene session and before whitening to ensure you get the best results from your whitening treatment.
How long will it last?
This depends entirely on your diet/smoking/cleaning habits. If you are a big fan of tea, coffee, red wine and curries, you can expect the staining to return over a few months. If you rarely have these and are a thorough brusher at home, teeth can remain stain-free for up to a year. Most patients who choose Airflow Polishing will have the procedure around once a year, and also just before any special occasions (perfect for weddings!).
